Tyce’s Birth

sany00231Labor/Delivery

Tyler Tyce DeLange was born on Oct 20, 2008 at 5:29 pm weighing 6.6 perfect lbs.

Our original due date was Oct 30, but I was having high blood pressure that kept going up- so the doc decided we needed to induce labor early.  So we scheduled Sept. 19 (Sunday night) to go into the hospital and start the labor process.

Sunday Night 7:00 pm:

Sunday night at 7:00 pm we went in and they started me on some pills that (in theory) would make me dilate. They continued to give me these pills until about 7:00 am. My doctor came to check on me- and I had only dilated to a 1- (for those that were as clueless as I was before the baby- you should be at a 10 when you deliver). So- at that point the doctor decided to put me on pitocin (a drug that makes you go into labor no matter what) AND he broke my water at the same time (that hurt).

Monday Morning 7:00 am:

Immediately after both methods to force labor I started to feel intense contractions.  It only lasted about an hour and a half before I asked for an epidural- haha- I’m a wuss.  Then we just waited….

And waited…

Monday Afternoon 2:00 pm:

When they give you an epidural they give you a little magic button to push if you feel like you need a dose, but you could only push it every 15 min.  At the 15 minute mark I would start to feel my toes too- so I would get nervous and push the button. WELL- after I went through 2 bags of medicine (and I was throwing up every 10 minutes) my nurse said I should probably cut down on the button pushing and that the average woman in labor for 12 hours only used 1 bag of medicine.  So I stopped pushing my magic button- but got nervous after about 20 minutes b/c I could feel medicine coming in still. So- I started to get nervous and I asked Tyler to check out the equipment to see if the IV was leaking or something. So Ty looked at it – and told me everything looks fine. And then he realized that I didn’t know that the medicine would dispense automatically!  This whole time (like 7 hours) I had thought I had to press my button to get medicine. Haha. So after that I just let it drip on its own- and life was good even though I could feel my toes.

And waited…

3:00 pm:

After 8 hours (not counting the 12 the night before) I was still only dilated to a 2- but my contractions were super intense- to put it in perspective the doctor said the average woman in active labor (actual delivery) has contractions that reach 60- mine were at 90- I’m so glad I had an epidural at that point.  So- doc said if I didn’t make any progress in the next hour and a half that we would have to do a c-section.

5:00 pm:

C-section time! We all know the ending to that story- we had to do a c-section. It was all over in about 30 minutes. Our precious son was born at 5:29. Tyler was able to be in the room with me in scrubs- and he was able to take pictures and record some of it. I was so proud of Ty for being able to be in there- usually he gets a little woosey when doctors start messing with me- but he was just fine. He thinks it’s because he was so excited to see his baby boy. Turns out that Tyce was stuck- so he has two bumps on his head from his head hitting my bones during the contractions. Who knows how such a little baby could get stuck in my child bearing hips ;) .  The doctors said that if we lived in the in pioneer days that both the baby and I would have died. Wow- I was born at the right time- drugs and knifes saved my life!

When I heard him cry for the first time- of course I started crying. Tyler was able to watch them clean him up and weigh him while they sewed me back up. It was such an amazing experience. Amazing how much our lives changed when we looked into the eyes of our son and immediately fell in love.  I know most mothers would say this about their babies- but my son is the most beautiful, amazing child!

My Tycers

Tyce is just the sweetest little boy. He is almost a week old. He only cries when we change his diaper- as he pees on us as well.  He is a very alert baby and will just stare at you when he is awake. Its hard not to fall in love with this kid.

The other day I was taking his temperature when I got a phone call. Jenna was holding him so I kept the thermometer under his arm and told him to hold it there for me when I went for the phone.  I was on the phone for at least 5 minutes and when I got back Jenna and Tyler where there laughing. Tyce had held the thermometer there the WHOLE time!! That cute little bug!

Well- Tyce has my heart and he has his Dads as well. We are both wrapped around his fingers and we love it.
